KEMERTON ORCHARD DAY Kemerton Conservation Trust and Kemerton Orchard Workers are planning a day of celebration of our local orchards in aid of our work to protect this important part of village life, wildlife and landscape. The day will start with accompanied Orchard Walks leaving at 11.00, 12.30 and 14.00 – starting from near St Nicholas’ Church – and lasting up to one hour – cost £1 per head. This walk will take in a beautifully restored walled garden and a farm orchard (suitable footwear please). There will be a Nature Trail for young visitors. An unaccompanied walk may be taken to visit Daffurn’s Orchard, a community orchard nature reserve at the top of the village. No dogs in the orchards please. The Village Hall will be open from 12.30 until 16.30 where the following events and displays will be taking place; Apple Pressing using modern day equipment. Apple juice will be on sale or bring your own apples and we will endeavour to press as much as possible for a nominal charge. Visit a Traditional Apple Press adjacent to the village hall. Kemerton Cyder - The first bottling of Kemerton Cyder made by Minchew’s Real Cyder and Perry from hand picked Kemerton apples will be on sale. Beth Phillip, a local award-winning watercolour botanical artist will be giving demonstrations and a limited edition print of her beautiful picture of apple ‘Discovery’ will be amongst the raffle prizes. Toff Milway - A renowned local potter will be displaying hand made cider jugs and baking dishes Kemerton Orchard Workers will be launching their 2010 Calendar together with the sale of cards, tea towels and bags plus the sale of local produce from a variety of fruits (seasonal), preserves and ice cream. Select a recipe from an A-Z of Apple Recipes and take a copy home. Displays by Slipstream Organics – a vegetable box company which supply Kemerton apples and Walcott Organic Nurseries – which supply our fruit trees.
