KEMERTON CONSERVATION TRUST

 'Conserving wildlife and ancient landscape'

Registered Charity Number: 702488

Our Mission

Since 1989, Kemerton Conservation Trust has been working to conserve wildlife and places of beauty in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, with our main focus on and around Bredon Hill in South Worcestershire.

The Trust manages a wide variety of important sites for the benefit of wildlife, including six nature reserves with public access. Through preservation and restoration of existing sites and new habitat creation, the Trust aims to ensure that nature can flourish now and into the future.

We carry out innovative research on our reserves, seeking to widen current conservation knowledge. Many of our projects have a practical focus such as our Leaf Litter Trials and our Nest Box Trials. These small but useful research projects enhance our knowledge and improve habitat management techniques. Reports on these projects are made available online and are published in relevant publications to ensure other conservation organisations can access our data and results.

In addition to managing conservation sites, the Trust’s staff and volunteers carry out wildlife surveys on our own reserves and other important wildlife sites in the area. The Trust has accumulated over 50,000 biological records since its inception and all these records contribute to the national biodiversity network database. Biological records are a vital resource for monitoring population trends, and knowledge gained from surveys helps to inform habitat management plans for individual sites. Some of our surveys have been carried out annually since the Trust was founded, giving us continuous data spanning decades. Species site lists for some of our reserves and managed orchards can be found on our Species Records page.

Part of our remit is to educate and inspire the general public, land managers, and other conservation organisations. We provide information through our website, bi-annual newsletters, leaflets and published reports. We attend local events, as well as running our own events and hosting group visits.
